Deck yourself

before you wreck yourself

Recently, my best friend pulled a tarot reading for me. It came after one of those big ol’ heart-to-hearts and a much-needed catch-up. As the cards were revealed, each one hit harder than the last.

She used the Celtic Cross layout — one of the most well-known tarot spreads. It’s brilliant for digging into a particular situation, but it also works really well for big-picture check-ins and general outlooks. Think what you will about tarot, but I love the way it helps you see things from a fresh perspective — like holding up a mirror to your mind, but with a bit more drama.

I wasn’t planning to share this, but it felt too resonant not to. Maybe you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or ready to shift gears too? If so, this might give you a little nudge in the right direction.

Before I even began pulling the cards for the Celtic Cross, one fell out of the deck — a sign that it shouldn’t be ignored. We explored its meaning, and from that point on, I knew it was going to be an interesting read. The card that fell out was The Star, which symbolizes hope, faith, and renewal. It represents a bright future and a positive outlook, signifying healing, inspiration, and a strong connection to spirituality. In essence, The Star encourages optimism and trust in the universe’s plan, offering guidance and a renewed sense of purpose.

CHILLS!

The Big Story:

This is what the reading told me, and honestly? It hit home.

I’m in a pattern-breaking season.

I’ve been craving adventure and growth (Page of Wands), but I’ve also been dragging around emotional weight (5 of Cups), feeling disconnected (3 of Cups reversed), and stuck on repeat (Wheel reversed).

The message was clear: start small, build better habits (Knight of Pentacles reversed), pick my battles (5 of Swords), and trust that balance is coming (6 of Pentacles).

And the ultimate plot twist? The Devil showed up — not as a threat, but as a reminder. Freedom isn’t something I wait for. It’s something I choose. The doors aren’t locked — I’ve been holding the key all along.

the cards

1. Heart of the Matter

Wheel of Fortune : Reversed

You might feel stuck in a loop — like life’s on pause or keeps dragging you back to old stories. Change is trying to happen, but something’s resisting the flow. Maybe the timing feels off, or your momentum’s stalled.

2. The Challenge

Knight of Pentacles : Reversed

This is about discipline, daily routines, and sticking with the not-so-sexy stuff. The challenge? Not letting restlessness derail you. Sustainable change is slow — and yes, that’s frustrating.

3. Root Cause

Page of Wands

Your heart’s craving creativity, play, adventure — the sparkly stuff. You’re meant to explore and expand, but life’s heaviness might’ve been dimming that spark.

4. Recent Past

3 of Cups : Reversed

A sense of isolation or feeling disconnected from your usual support crew. Maybe you’ve been hermit-ing, or certain friendships aren’t feeling as nourishing lately.

5. Best Outcome

5 of Swords

This isn’t about winning — it’s about knowing when to walk away. The best outcome? Peace, not point-proving. Choose your battles wisely.

6. Immediate Future

6 of Pentacles

Balance is on the horizon. Energy exchanges start to feel better. Support might arrive — financial, emotional, practical — or you might finally learn to give without overgiving, and receive without guilt.

7. You / Your Power

5 of Cups

Yep, grief or regret might be lingering. But your power lies in perspective — noticing what remains, what still brings joy. Healing’s happening.

8. External Influences

9 of Pentacles

You’re surrounded by beauty, abundance, and independence — even if it’s easy to forget. It might also be a reminder from others living their soft-life era: it’s possible for you too.

9. Hopes & Fears

King of Pentacles

You want security, stability, something solid — but you also fear being stuck or weighed down by responsibility. You want to build something lasting without losing yourself in the process.

10. Final Outcome

The Devil

Here’s the truth bomb: what’s keeping you stuck might be internal — habits, fear, avoidance, old patterns. But this card is empowering. Once you see the chains, you can break them.

the plan

Here’s how I’m hoping to take the cards off the table and into real life:

🌀 Wheel reversed + Knight reversed

Try this: Choose one tiny habit to commit to daily for 7 days. Nothing fancy — just something that shows up for you.
(e.g. morning walk, 10 mins of creative play, journaling, lighting a candle and breathing deeply)

🔥 Page of Wands

Try this: Plan one fun, adventurous thing that excites you — just for you. Not for work, not for anyone else. Pure joy.

💛 3 of Cups reversed

Try this: Reach out to a mate or two for a low-pressure catch-up. Reconnect. Let yourself be supported.

⚔️ 5 of Swords

Try this: Practice the art of “let them.”
Let people misunderstand you. Let people go quiet. Let people be themselves. You do you.

⚖️ 6 of Pentacles

Try this: Notice when you’re over-giving. Pause and ask: “Is this needed, or is this just habit?” Adjust as needed.

⛓️ The Devil

Try this: Write down 3 habits or patterns you’re ready to loosen your grip on. No shame — just awareness.
Stick them on your mirror and smile at them each day as you gently let them go.

Alrighty then, enough tarot talk for now!

But if any of this resonates, I’d love to hear your thoughts
