JULY – JOYFUL DISCIPLINE
Structure doesn’t have to suck - finding fun in the habits
Here we are again, another new month and time for me to check back in with my 2025 Mantra Map - which oddly, seems to be playing out all by itself right now! Maybe that’s all subconscious or the universe trying to look out for me, either way, I’m here for it!
And, I know, I know - we’re a few days into July already, but time is a weird little jellyfish right now and I’m giving myself full permission to be gently late. Like I said, this month’s mantra feels spookily relevant at the moment. Between calendar shuffling, unpicking some old patterns in therapy, and trying (again!) to find a routine that actually works for this version of me… joyful discipline has never felt more important - or more complicated.
Discipline used to feel like a punishment. A rigid, shouty bootcamp of shame. But I’m starting to reframe it as something kinder. Something that supports me, rather than squashes me. It’s not about sticking to a perfect plan - it’s about showing up with curiosity, care and a bit of humour, even when I’d rather hide under the duvet.
Structure can be soft. Habits can be helpful. And dare I say it... discipline can even be a bit fun when it’s rooted in things that bring me joy - like movement that makes me feel strong, food that fuels without faff, and routines that create space for sunshine (and snacks).
So this month I’m leaning into that. Joyful discipline. Not militant. Not chaotic. Just consistent-ish, with room to wobble.
If you’re also trying to find a rhythm that works for you, here’s your permission slip: it doesn’t have to look tidy, or Insta-worthy, or like anyone else’s version of “balanced.” If it’s working for you, that’s more than enough.
Here’s to structure that doesn’t suck, and habits that actually help. Let’s keep showing up - messily, joyfully, and with as many cups of tea as it takes.
We’re gonna need a bigger cup!
💛
