Frogs…

…festivals and fortunes?

A silly little post for now, but it feels like the universe has been throwing a lot of frogs towards me and my friend Emma recently. It started at Shambala this year, where it felt like we couldn’t escape them. Frogs kept popping up everywhere - on people (tattoos!), in conversations, and even as unexpected gifts. By the end of the weekend it felt less like coincidence and more like the universe was croaking directly at us. Especially seeing as both of us have independently been tagged in, sent, and stumbled across even more ribbeting material since!

So of course, I went down a little frog-symbolism rabbit hole (or should that be lily pond paddle?). Turns out, frogs may look like slippery little pond-hoppers on the surface, but they’re loaded with meaning across cultures, folklore, and even the slightly woo-woo corners of the internet. Here’s what I found… for funsies 🐸

🌱 Literal & Natural

  • Transformation & growth → Tadpole → Frog is the ultimate “glow up.” Seeing frogs can symbolise change, personal growth, or moving into a new phase of life.

  • Clean environments → Frogs are super sensitive to pollution, so their presence often signals a healthy ecosystem. Literally, they’re little green eco-barometers.

  • Seasonal shift → Their croaks often mark transitions (rainy season, springtime).

🔮 Spiritual & Symbolic

  • Rebirth & renewal → Frogs live in both water and on land, so they’re often seen as a bridge between worlds or states of being.

  • Cleansing & healing → In some traditions, frog energy is tied to water and purification. There are even shamanic practices (like the controversial kambo frog medicine) linked to detox and reset.

  • Luck, abundance & fortunes → In Chinese feng shui, the “money frog” (three-legged toad) is a prosperity symbol.

  • Adaptability → Frogs remind you to be flexible and resilient when life feels swampy.

🧚 Myth & Folklore

  • Fairytales → Frogs often pop up as enchanted beings (kiss a frog → find a prince). They can symbolise hidden potential or unexpected blessings.

  • Egyptian mythology → The frog-headed goddess Heqet represented fertility and childbirth.

  • Celtic lore → Frogs were connected to healing wells and water spirits.

🤪 Batshit-Crazy / Fun Theories

  • Cosmic couriers → Some New Age-y corners suggest animals show up in your life as “spirit guides” when you need their particular medicine (so, maybe your subconscious is shouting “time to leap!”).

  • Synchronicity signal → Seeing them everywhere could just be Baader-Meinhof effect (when you notice something once, you suddenly see it everywhere — also known as the Frequency Illusion)… OR the universe having a little giggle.

  • Froggy tricksters → In a cheekier sense, frogs could be the universe’s way of saying don’t take things too seriously — sometimes you just need a silly hop and a croak.

So depending on your vibe, frogs could be:
✨ A nudge toward transformation
✨ A reminder to cleanse and let go of old gunk
✨ A silly cosmic in-joke telling you to keep things playful

And honestly? I’m here for all of it. By the time I’d finished reading all this, it hit me: those Shambala frogs were basically a cosmic pep talk.

👉 Shed what doesn’t fit anymore.
👉 Adapt when life shifts.
👉 Leap forward, even if it feels a bit muddy.
👉 And don’t forget to laugh at the ridiculousness along the way.

So maybe the frog isn’t just a festival mascot for us this year. Maybe it’s a totem. A tattoo-worthy reminder that transformation is messy, magical, lucky, and absolutely worth the leap.

Like I said, ribbeting stuff, eh? Thanks for reading…

now HOP IT and have a great day!
